Hello, my name is Krystal Everdeen and I am a Disneyland Annual Passholder who loves making Disney-themed videos! If you haven’t already, please watch the video version of this post for more visuals, footage, and overall more entertaining experience of the same information. But if you prefer to read, then just stay put! In this post, I would like to give some advice on what to actually pack in your backpack and take to the park- not necessarily what to pack for your whole vacation. I’m going to keep this as short and simple as possible, because no one wants to lug around a heavy backpack filled with items you’re not even going to use.
So first let’s start with the basics. Things that everyone needs to pack no matter what: you’re ID, your ticket, and your wallet/ your money. Without any of those, you literally cannot even get into the park. SO, make sure you have those. Plus, if there’s anything you forgot to pack and need while you’re in the park, you can always just buy it at a shop within Disneyland, or at a store walking distance from the park.
Now, everything else I’m going to suggest is on a case by case basis, depending on the weather and your preferences. Now, Southern California usually has the same weather all the time- sunny and warm. But there are times when it’s actually quite chilly and rainy, and many times when it’s horribly hot and burning- so pack and dress accordingly. Packing wise, it is always smart to take a water bottle and chapstick, because regardless of the weather, walking around all day is going to get you dehydrated and give you chapped lips. Sunblock is also always a good idea, as you can get burned even on cloudy days- it’s true, it’s happened to me many times. Additional toiletries I like to take, but don’t really have to, are travel sized bottles of hand sanitizers and lotion. You can also pack a small makeup bag with your touch up essentials so you can make sure you look good in your vacation photos.
Speaking of photos, if you plan to take all your photos on your phone, make sure you take either a charger and hope to find an outlet somewhere in the park, or- as I would suggest- take a portable external battery charger so you can charge your phone whenever. Even if you’re not planning on using your phone for picture taking, I would suggest doing this; you are going to be there all day after all, and you want to make sure you can keep in contact with everyone. Similarly, if you plan on using another camera to take pictures, I would suggest taking a back-up battery as well, and maybe a ziplock bag it can fit into just in case it rains or if you’re planning on going on any water rides.
Alright, so onto food. Yes, you actually can bring food into Disneyland- I’m honestly not sure what the restrictions are- besides obviously no alcoholic beverages- so if you are unsure if you can bring something, just check out the Disneyland website. But for the most part anyway, you’re just going to want to bring small snacks or eat at a restaurant either within the park, Downtown Disney, or somewhere near the park, right? Usually, yeah, that’s what people do. So, you’re going to want to pack your favorite snacks like sandwiches, granola bars, crackers, dried fruit, and so on so you can munch on them while in line for a ride, watching a parade, or walking around.
Finally, we are going to discuss clothing. If you’re going for a full day of Disneyland fun and attractions, the key is dressing cute but comfortable. Now, unless you’re going to Disneyland for a photoshoot, never take heels. Never-take-heels. Or any uncomfortable shoes in general because you are going to be standing and walking around all day on concrete so if you want to take those cute uncomfortable shoes to take pictures in, by all means, take them, but please also take a pair of suitable walking shoes too. Hey, but on your Instagram you’re not always wearing the most comfortable shoes at Disney- yes, it’s true, I do wear flat shoes like Keds and Vans when I go to Disneyland, but that’s because I’m only there for a few hours then I go home. When I plan to stay there all day, however, I make sure to not only wear comfortable shoes, but also a comfortable outfit. I personally like wearing workout leggings, a cozy & casual Disney top, and running shoes. I think sporty is the best way to go, but if you would like to dress cuter, you can still wear summer dresses, skirts & jeans and still be fine, just as long as you find them comfortable. Okay, so comfort is key- other tips on what to pack include sunglasses, a hat or Mickey/ Minnie ears, a light sweater or jacket because usually gets pretty cold at night, and an extra pair of socks just in case yours get wet from water rides or rain. Walking around in wet socks is awful, so be prepared.
And that’s it! Again, this was a very slimmed-down version of what to take to Disneyland, but it’s going to change depending on your situation. If you’re going with children, you’re going to have to pack more stuff, if you need to take medication- you will need to pack that too, if you’re going during the winter or spring, you may need to pack an umbrella- so again, it’s going to be different every time, but I just wanted to put this together so you at least have the very basics nice and packed up for your unforgettable time at the Happiest Place on Earth. Now if you would like some more tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your day at Disneyland, including how to ride as many rides as possible, meet characters, and so on, I will have the link to that video in the description box below.
