Hey there! Ever since I was asked how I keep my hair so long and healthy, I have uploaded a hair tip video annually on my YouTube channel. Now that I have this blog, I decided to share them here too! These How to Grow Long Hair Fast tips are what I typically follow to keep my hair healthy and thriving. I hope you find these tips helpful and effective!Stay Healthy
Everything functions better when you take care of your body and mind. Drink plenty of water, eat right, sleep well, and exercise regularly to keep your body healthy. Additionally, try to keep your stress levels low, because stress does also factor into your overall health. There are cases in which people who are very stressed suffer from brittle, thinning hair because of it. Although you may not be able to control the stressful situations in your life; meditation, discussion, or exercise may help.Take Vitamins or SupplementsAlthough I have never personally tried hair supplements, I have heard from others that prenatal vitamins have worked well for them in restoring their dry hair. Although I believe that drinking water and eating right is enough to naturally produce the nourishment your hair needs, if you wish to try every possible avenue for achieving healthy hair, I would suggest that you look into vitamins and supplements meant to support hair, skin, and nail health.
Limit Heat Styling Your Hair
One of the greatest causes of damage to your hair is heat styling. From blow drying to straightening, all heat styling burns your hair to some degree and leaves it dry and prone to breakage. One of the best decisions I made when I grew my hair from right below shoulder length to below my chest was to stop heat styling it. I would straighten my hair every day, which caused me to have damaged hair and a plethora of split ends. Then, I got into sports and found it useless to style my hair at all since I was just going to tie it up by 3 pm. For an entire year, I only heat styled my hair about five times. And that change truly made a difference in the health and growth of my hair.Heat Protecting Spray
However, if you simply cannot give up heat styling, I would suggest to at least protect your hair with heat protecting spray.
Use Ceramic Heat Styling Tools
Although metal heat styling tools works faster, are stronger and more effective on thick, stubborn hair, and lasts longer, they cause much more damage than ceramic alternatives. Ceramic-plated heat styling tools such as straighteners and wands do not damage your hair as much, and still work well! I personally use a ceramic wand and a ceramic-plated straightener from L’ange Hair as my go-to heat styling tools.Get Regular Trims
Although it may sound counter-intuitive to cut your hair when you are aiming to grow it out, going to get your hair trimmed regularly is essential to maintaining the health of your hair. You need to remove the dead, damaged parts of your hair; otherwise the damage will not only stay as split ends, it will continue to rise up your hair towards your roots. Therefore, in the end, you will need to chop off far more than you would have if you had just trimmed off a bit at a time.Avoid Dying/ Bleaching Your Hair
Dying your hair is always damaging, but going from dark to light is the worst. Bleaching your hair is by far the worst thing you can do to your hair. Bleaching strips away at your hair follicles, leaving them extremely thin and weak. Now, unless you have lots of time, patience, and money to keep up the look with more bleach sessions, toning, and treatments, do not do it if you want long hair. That’s why people who constantly dye their hair often end up with short hair. However, if you must dye your hair, keep in mind that going darker is better, but if you ever want to go lighter, it is going to be a very long and damaging process. Also, do some research on the dye you will be using and try to get something that is free of hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, and other toxic chemicals.Wigs
Lastly, I would suggest getting a wig if you are on the fence about a new hair color. The scary thing about dying your hair is that you may go through heck trying to get to this specific color, and never achieve it. It all depends on how your hair reacts to the treatments, and how much money you put into it. On the other hand, you can get a wig with the exact color you want and not have to deal with salon visits or even commit to the color. Plus, lace front wigs look realistic and are often made with synthetic hair that is even softer than real hair!Treat your hair
Now, you can get deep conditioning treatments at the salon, but personally, I do not think it is worth it. Deep conditioning treatments at a salon cost anywhere from $50-$150+ and they don’t even last long. This may just be me being suspicious, but I think that these treatments are purposely short-term because stylists typically recommend that you come back to get these expensive deep conditioning treatments every couple weeks. I am a non-believer because I found that all you have to do is get $3-5 Hask Hair deep conditioning packets to achieve the same, or even better results. Depending on how damaged your hair is, you may want to use this treatment once a week, every other week, or once a month. When I was treating my hair after having gotten it bleached, I used these deep conditioning packets a few times a month, depending on how dry and frizzy my hair looked and felt. After about two or three months, my hair was back to its normal, healthy texture.Oil treatments. There are two forms of oil treatments: ones for deeply damaged, course, stubborn hair; and ones for daily maintenance. For a serious session, I would suggest to look up hot oil treatments. However, for casual treatments like mine, I simply use argon oil on my damp or dry hair to treat my frizz and nourish it. Speaking of oils, another tip I’d like to add is to wash your hair every other day, that way your natural oils have a chance to seep into your hair and nourish it. However, not everyone is able to do this, or should do it. If you are someone with naturally oily hair, there is no need for you to skip a hair wash.Shampoo and Conditioner
Although I would highly recommend washing your hair every other day, there are many reasons you may not be able to. So, I would suggest to at least avoid using shampoos and conditioners with drying ingredients such as sodium chloride and sulfates. Instead, try to only use hair products that are meant to repair, strengthen, and condition your hair.
Finally, I just wanted to end with saying that there is no magic product or trick that works for everyone. Some people may find a certain treatment or shampoo to work wonders, and others may realize that it makes their hair fall out! Also, growing out your hair does take time, and it can be frustrating. You may want to just give up and cut your hair short again, but remember that you will get there someday if you just keep trying! Treat yourself and your hair right and you will love it.
