In honor of Harry Potter’s Birthday, July 31st, here is how you can make your very own embroidery hoop room decor inspired by Harry’s signature birthday cake.
Materials:
Embroidery Hoop
Pink Felt
Green Felt
Pink Thread
Green Thread
Scissors
Sewing/ Embroidery Needle
Optional:
Second layer of fabric if you feel that one layer of pink felt is not sturdy enough.
Pink paint + paint brush if you wish to paint outer hoop pink to match the project.
STEP 1
Remove smaller hoop from larger hoop by loosening the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop. ~optional: paint larger hoop pink
STEP 2
Trace out HAPPEE BIRTHDAE HARRY on green felt, making sure to measure out how big the letters can be in order to fit it all within the embroidery hoop. Also, make sure that you trace out the letters large enough so that you cut within the trace, so you are not left if letters that have black outlines.
STEP 3
Cut out all the letters and align them like so, making sure you have all the letters you need.
STEP 4
Grab the larger hoop and place the pink felt on top of it, making sure that there is plenty of extra felt all around the hoop. ~ optional: place second layer of fabric on top of the pink felt, also making sure that there is plenty of extra fabric surrounding the hoop.
Grab the smaller hoop and place it within the larger hoop by pushing it on top of the fabric until the two hoops are secured. Then, make sure to tighten the top screw so that the project does not fall apart.
STEP 5 – Optional
Flip it over to the front, where the pink felt shows, and use your needle and pink thread to sew all along the circumference of the hoop- securing the two fabrics together (if you used an extra layer of fabric)
STEP 6
Align your letters to how you want them to be placed on your project and make sure that all the letters fit. If you can, pin or glue the letters in place so that they don’t move around while you are sewing.
STEP 7
Using your needle and green thread, sew each letter by outlining them with small stitches.
When finished with the last letter, be sure to tie off the thread with a knot in the back, and you’ve done it!
