My family and I took a day trip to Old Town San Diego to celebrate my grandma’s birthday (Happy Birthday Grammy ❤) and it was pretty fun! We took the train instead of driving, which is a good alternative, since you don’t have to sit in traffic or pay for gas; however, although it is not typically like this, the train was crowded and we all had to sit separately for most of the trip. However, it wasn’t too bad, my mom actually sat next to and conversed with a member the boy band O-Town.

I thought that was funny. Not necessarily because he is/ was in a boy band, but because we were headed to Old Town and his band is called O-Town… ehh? Funny, huh? 😏
Anyway, after and hour and a half, we arrived at Old Town San Diego and went straight to Casa de Reyes, an awesome restaurant with delicious food and live entertainment.
Since I am a vegetarian, I ordered the Veggie Tostada. It came with a tostada covered in rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese; as well as a side of beans and rice. I have to say, it was REALLY good and I pretty much cleaned my plate in less than 5 minutes, it was so delicious. I don’t know what it was about everything, but none of it tasted greasy or heavy, which made me feel better about ordering the fried ice cream.
The fried ice cream is a MUST if you come here. Fried ice cream sounds weird if you have never tried it before, I mean, even I was confused. How the heck do you fry ice cream without melting it? To this day, I don’t know. But what I do know is that it is the tastiest ice cream ever, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It is warm on the outside, chilled on the inside, sweet, crunchy, and oh-so yummy! It even comes with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and an edible sugar and cinnamon bowl!
After we completed our awesome meal, we walked around and browsed through the abundance of shops selling the cutest little trinkets, Mexican-style clothing, candy, clothing, and more. It was a bit chillier than I expected, so my lovely mother decided to buy me this epic poncho I am currently obsessed with. Yes, once I get something I REALLY like, I am obsessed with it for weeks and pretty much wear it every day until the obsession fades… yeah. But, I mean, how could you not love this poncho? Okay, yes, this is not the best photo of it, but I wanted to show you how excited I was while wearing it. I literally spun around in it all day. When looking for something to warm me up, I thought twice about a poncho because I always thought they were thin an rough, but OH MAN this one is thick, warm, soft, and adorable. Okay, okay, enough about the poncho, let’s move on.
After getting that awesome poncho, we visited the model train store, which is a real sight to see. They made a replica of an entire city and more! It is free to go in, and if you complete a scavenger hunt, they give you a prize! It is called Old Town Model Railroad Depot and everyone in there is super kind and wonderful. They run off of donations, so if you go, please support them if you can!
We completed the day with more walking around, visiting shops, hot chocolate, and a much more relaxed train ride back home. This time, we were all able to sit next to each other, yay! My favorite shop was this crystal shop that I actually did not catch the name of. It is hidden behind Cafe Coyote, and it is pretty small, but packed with amazing crystals for a great price! Honestly, I didn’t get anything from there, though, because I think I have enough crystals at the moment/ my family was holding me back trying to save me from starting an overwhelming crystal collection. 😅
Well, that is the end of that travel story, I hope you enjoyed it. If you want more, check out my Youtube channel for my Old Town San Diego vlog! I will most likely share it on here as well, but if I don’t just visit Krystal Everdeen on Youtube. Thanks so much, see you in the next post!
